An Influenza A outbreak at the Lar da Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Veiros care home in Estremoz, Portugal, has resulted in multiple fatalities. Initially, the Portuguese Public Prosecutor's Office (PGR) opened an inquiry following the deaths of four elderly residents amidst a respiratory disease outbreak. At that stage, 25 residents exhibited symptoms compatible with Influenza A, though laboratory testing had only confirmed the virus in one case.

By late September, the death toll rose to five. Laboratory tests confirmed the Influenza A virus in two of the deceased individuals. Health authorities, including the Alentejo Central Local Health Unit (ULSAC), have been monitoring the situation, conducting site visits, and coordinating clinical follow-ups to ensure compliance with infection control and hygiene measures.
