The administration has utilized legal appeals and public demonstrations to protect the city’s status as a healthcare hub. Following these efforts, a separate proposal was introduced to develop a large exhibition and congress center in the area to stimulate tourism and commerce. While some officials suggested treating the convention center as a distinct development from the hospital project, Mayor Caruso has since proposed an integrated healthcare model. In a recent address at an event organized by the ASP of Cosenza, Caruso advocated for a dual-track strategy that combines a modern hospital Hub with a robust network of local services. He emphasized that municipalities should act as ‘sentinels’ for citizen needs to ensure healthcare remains a right rather than a commodity.
