Innovation and entrepreneurship in the Netherlands
Overview
The Netherlands is hosting various initiatives to support technological and entrepreneurial development across multiple sectors.
In mid-October, the ‘De Innovatiefste Student van Nederland 2026’ competition in Nijmegen highlighted student-led projects. Finalists presented diverse innovations, including plastic-reducing laboratory plates, communication apps for individuals with intellectual disabilities, 3D-printed organ models for surgical practice, bio-based industrial coatings, and autonomous hydrogen airships.
By late October, regional programs expanded support for established entrepreneurs. In Groenlo, an Agro Innovation Event focused on smart technology for dairy farming, featuring developments in underground drip irrigation, manure conversion bioreactors, and AI-driven animal welfare monitoring. Meanwhile, in Noord-Holland, the GO!-NH acceleration program continues to support 19 entrepreneurs working in the energy transition, circular economy, and healthcare, with projects ranging from sheep wool-based fertilizer to seaweed-based plastic alternatives.
