Insolvency and money laundering investigation at Türkischer_

Overview

The German football club GU-Türkischer SV Pforzheim initially entered insolvency proceedings following the discovery of significant tax debts, estimated at approximately 200,000 euros, due to unfiled tax returns. The club’s legal counsel characterized the proceedings as an opportunity to restructure the organization.

However, the situation escalated into a major criminal investigation. Two former club officials were arrested on charges of organized money laundering and concealing criminal assets. Authorities allege the club served as a front for a criminal network that processed approximately 50 million euros worth of stolen gold, silver, and platinum.

The investigation expanded after customs officials at Stuttgart airport discovered 215,000 euros in undeclared cash within the luggage of 27 players. Further searches in Pforzheim yielded an additional 220,000 euros. Investigators suspect the network intended to illegally transfer illicit funds from Germany to Turkey. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the 27 players, and nine other individuals remain under suspicion.

Following the investigation, the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor's Office formally filed charges against the two officials for gang fencing and money laundering. Prosecutors allege that over a six-year period, the suspects utilized a precious metal trading business to acquire, melt, and resell stolen metals. The club has since lost its non-profit status and faces severe financial consequences. The two officials remain in custody awaiting trial at the Mannheim District Court, while separate legal proceedings continue for the involved players.
