Intel is advancing its semiconductor manufacturing and server processor capabilities. The company is developing the Xeon 6+ (Clearwater Forest) generation of server processors using the 18A manufacturing process, which focuses on energy efficiency and high core counts for data centers. Intel is also preparing an 18A-P variant for Diamond Rapids server processors, expected in mid-2027. Regarding fabrication, Intel CFO David Zinsner reported that the 14A process is experiencing defect density improvements at the fastest rate in 15 years, performing better than the company’s target curve. The 14A node will utilize High-NA EUV lithography and second-generation RibbonFET transistors, with risk production scheduled for the second half of 2027 and high-volume manufacturing expected in 2028. Recent analysis from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu suggests that Intel’s 18A process yield for the Panther Lake product line is expected to reach approximately 80% by the second quarter of 2026. To compete with TSMC’s 1.4nm platform, Intel aims for substantial 14A capacity expansion, with projections suggesting monthly production could reach 6,000 wafers by the end of 2027 and increase fourfold to 24,000 wafers per month by 2028. Additionally, analysts have noted speculative reports regarding a potential collaboration between Intel and NVIDIA. Such a partnership might involve developing and manufacturing AI CPUs, potentially integrating Intel’s x86 architecture into NVIDIA’s computing ecosystem, such as the upcoming Rosa Feynman platform. As the AI industry expands, Intel continues to work on scaling its foundry business to compete with TSMC. This growth occurs amid a broader surge in AI infrastructure spending, which Gartner forecasts will reach $2.7 trillion in 2026.
