The 2026 monsoon season has intensified, causing widespread flooding, landslides, and fatalities across India. By mid-August, the death toll in Himachal Pradesh reached 187, with cumulative losses estimated at nearly Rs 973 crore. In Assam, fatalities rose to 104, with over 62,000 people affected. As of early September, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread alerts for approximately 17 states.
