During the 2026 pre-season and early Serie A campaign, Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu has focused on squad reinforcement and tactical integration.

Following a penalty shootout victory against Manchester City in a friendly match, Chivu emphasized the need for further defensive signings to address shortages at right-back. He noted the positive impact of summer arrival John Stones on the squad’s quality.

As the competitive season began, Chivu addressed a narrow 1-0 victory over Cagliari. While praising the integration of new signings John Stones and Curtis Jones, the manager expressed concerns regarding the team’s clinical efficiency and tendency to become “chaotic and panicked” during the second half of matches.

Chivu noted that while the team has maintained a 100% start to the season, they risk “creating problems for themselves” due to goal-scoring inefficiency. He highlighted the successful debuts of Stones and Jones, describing their ability to handle pressure as their “bread and butter,” though he noted both players require further match fitness. The club intends to gradually increase the playing time for the two English players to prepare them for upcoming high-stakes fixtures against Napoli and Real Madrid.
