International aid for Cuban school supplies
Overview
A coalition of grassroots groups from Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Belgium, Italy, the United States, and Canada coordinated ‘Operation Cuba Va’ to provide educational kits to 100 primary and secondary schools in Cuba.
The initiative raised approximately $20,000, with more than half of the funds managed by Chilean groups. The kits contain items such as pens, pencils, crayons, rulers, clay, paints, chalk, paper, and sports equipment. These materials have been handed over to Cuba’s Ministry of Education for distribution at the start of the new school year. Organizers stated the aid serves as a signal of solidarity with the Cuban people regarding the U.S. economic and energy embargo, which they claim has limited the domestic production of teaching materials.
