International Organization for Migration global activities
Overview
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has engaged in various regional initiatives to manage migration and mobility. In India, high level meetings were held in New Delhi between IOM Director General Amy Pope and Indian government officials. These discussions focused on global migration trends, skills recognition, ethical recruitment protocols, and the establishment of regular labor pathways.
In Africa, the IOM launched separate programs in The Gambia and Nigeria. In The Gambia, the organization conducted a workshop in Bijilo to train journalists and civil society members in ethical, evidence based migration reporting to counter misinformation. In Nigeria, the IOM introduced a 25 year strategic framework called Migration Vision @25. This plan aims to establish Nigeria as a hub for safe migration by focusing on mobility, opportunity, and resilience, specifically addressing the needs of migrants and internally displaced populations.
