Investigation into Daniela Villalba death in Córdoba

Overview

Authorities in Córdoba, Argentina, are investigating the death of Daniela Villalba as a suspected femicide. The investigation began after waste collectors discovered a suitcase containing bloodstained clothing, a wig, and Villalba’s identification in a trash container near the Cofico neighborhood.

Police located Villalba’s body in her apartment, where she had sustained stab wounds to her neck and arms. While the apartment appeared orderly, her cellphone was missing. A friend had previously reported her missing following a message from Villalba requesting help.

Prosecutor Pablo Camacho of the Gender Violence Crimes Prosecution Office is leading the inquiry. Investigators are analyzing surveillance footage that shows a tall man with long hair and a cap entering and exiting the building. While the footage quality is insufficient for definitive identification, it has allowed police to rule out the father of Villalba’s child as a suspect. Evidence suggests the man may have been carrying a suitcase and a rug. Digital forensics are also underway to recover the victim’s missing phone and review her final communications, which indicate she was expecting a visitor on the night of October 19.
