Investigation into disappearance of Yvonne Whear

Overview

The investigation into the disappearance of 73-year-old Yvonne Whear, who had been missing since February 19, has transitioned from a missing persons inquiry to a homicide investigation.

In September, police divers recovered Whear’s gold Ford Escape from the Rous River near Murwillumbah. While personal items suspected to belong to her were found inside the vehicle, she was not present. The vehicle had been located near Dulguigan following a search by the group Sun State Search.

In October, authorities identified a body found by trail bike riders on a rural property in Terragon as Yvonne Whear. The body was discovered in a partially submerged state within a stock dip approximately 20 kilometres south of Murwillumbah. Following forensic confirmation of her identity, the State Crime Command’s homicide squad was deployed to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
