Investigation into French nuclear maintenance corruption

Overview

The French National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) launched a large-scale investigation into the nuclear maintenance sector. The operation involved searches at several companies and the residences of employees and agents associated with the state-owned energy group EDF.

The investigation is targeting suspected corruption, organized fraud, money laundering, and anti-competitive agreements related to accessing nuclear power plant maintenance contracts. While the searches involved multiple agencies, including the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), authorities noted that the Flamanville nuclear plant and its subcontractors in Normandy were not included in the operation.

EDF has confirmed the searches and stated that it considers itself a “potential victim of these practices,” noting that the company is cooperating fully with judicial authorities.
