Investigation of Luis Sifuentes for human trafficking

Overview

Peruvian authorities are investigating sculptor Luis Sifuentes, known as ‘Mamanka’, for allegations of aggravated human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and sexual abuse involving Colombian nationals.

The investigation began following reports that Sifuentes targeted minors in Medellín, Colombia, allegedly facilitating clandestine transfers to Peru. One complainant, who was 14 at the time of the initial contact, alleges she was brought to Lima and subjected to repeated assaults, resulting in a pregnancy. A second woman has also come forward, claiming she was recruited under the guise of a job opportunity at age 15 and witnessed other minors in the artist’s environment.

In response to the allegations, the Peruvian Judiciary imposed a nine-month travel ban on Sifuentes. The case gained significant public attention following a report by the television program ‘Cuarto Poder’, which detailed allegations of physical violence against the victim.

Regarding the child resulting from the abuse, the Minister of Women and Vulnerable Populations, Mara Seminario, announced that the child has been placed under the custody of the Special Protection Unit (UPE) of the Ministry following legal demands from the mother.
