Ioannina Lake Run 20th anniversary

Overview

The Ioannina Lake Run celebrated its 20th anniversary in Ioannina, Greece, with a large-scale series of events. Initial preparations included a four-day experience at Mavili Square and the ‘Isalos Grammi’ (Parallel Line) art exhibition at the Technochoros gallery, which featured works by students from the School of Fine Arts of Ioannina.

The anniversary event achieved record participation, with totals reported between 7,000 and 8,000 participants across various race distances. The program included a 30-kilometer run around Lake Pamvotis, a 10-kilometer race, and a 5-kilometer run. To promote inclusivity, the event featured a 1,000-meter race for individuals with visual, motor, and intellectual impairments, alongside races for primary school students, a Family Run, and a ‘Baby Lake Run’ involving over 50 strollers.

In the competitive segments, Konstantinos Stamoulis secured his seventh victory in the 30 km race with a time of 1:37:04, while Athanasia Kokorou set a new women’s course record in the same distance at 1:50:11. Nikos Stamoulis won both the 10 km and 5 km races, and Denisa Balla won the women’s 5 km category. Allwyn Hellas served as a major sponsor for the event.

Local businesses also participated, such as energy company Volton, which hosted an interactive booth featuring games via QR codes to connect with the local community. The celebrations concluded with a commemorative event attended by local government, political, and business leaders, as well as 14 of the 21 former winners of the competition.
