IPv6 adoption trends in France
Overview
France has established itself as a global leader in IPv6 adoption. Data from Arcep indicates that by the end of 2025, the country reached a residential adoption rate of 74.7%, surpassing nations such as India and Germany. This transition was facilitated by major operators—including Free, Orange, Bouygues Telecom, and SFR—through automatic activation in customer equipment.
By mid-2026, the IPv6 subscriber rate rose to 75.6%. This high level of adoption is viewed as a critical foundation for the upcoming deployment of 6G mobile technology. While the 3GPP is expected to approve initial 6G standards by March 2027, industry experts anticipate that 6G chips could be available for pre-commercialization as early as 2028.
