Iran-United States military conflict

Overview

Military tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated following the termination of a ceasefire on July 8, after U.S. strikes on Iranian territory in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

During the two-week ‘Operation Nasr 2’, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed to have killed more than 200 U.S. soldiers and destroyed various military assets, including warplanes, helicopters, and drones. While U.S. airstrikes on Iran continued, Iranian officials characterized these actions as ‘war crimes.’

In subsequent developments, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the ongoing engagement as a ‘hybrid war’ aimed at regime change. The IRGC claimed to have downed over 200 enemy aircraft, including drones and manned planes, since the conflict began. Iran has also launched retaliatory strikes against U.S. facilities in several Middle Eastern nations, including Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Oman, and has stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
