Iranian attacks on Gulf states

In mid‑July 2026 Qatar’s foreign ministry publicly condemned a series of Iranian strikes on Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, calling the assaults on electricity and water infrastructure blatant breaches of sovereignty and the UN Charter. The statement highlighted the risk of escalation, invoked Qatar’s right to self‑defence under Article 51, and was backed by the Arab League secretary‑general and the Gulf Cooperation Council, which warned that civilian injuries in Kuwait threatened regional stability.

Two weeks later, Saudi Arabia issued its own condemnation of Iranian attacks that hit Kuwait and Jordan, noting a fatal strike on a company site in northern Kuwait. Riyadh expressed solidarity with the affected nations and pledged support for any defensive measures. Concurrently, Saudi defence officials convened a meeting with chiefs of staff from 43 countries and the EU to discuss forming a multinational naval defence coalition aimed at protecting Red Sea, Bab al‑Mandeb and Gulf of Aden shipping lanes, signaling a move toward coordinated security responses in the region.
