Iranian industrial and mining sector developments
Overview
Iran’s industrial sectors have reported varied performance across steel, mining, and metal commodities.
In the steel and mining sectors, the Nord and Steel Products Company saw an 88 percent revenue increase compared to the previous year, with August sales reaching 953 billion tomans. Simultaneously, the mining sector aims to increase annual gold bullion production from 12 tons to 15 tons through private sector auctions. Estimates suggest Iran holds approximately 800 tons of identified gold reserves.
In the commodities market, the Iran Mercantile Exchange scheduled significant offerings of aluminum and zinc ingots for mid-September 2026. While companies like Iran Alumina and South Aluminum Complex prepared large quantities for sale, the Iran Aluminum Company (Fayra) reported mixed results for August 2026. Although Fayra experienced a 111 percent increase in total revenue, officials noted this was driven by price inflation rather than increased activity, as the company saw a 13 percent decline in production and a 20 percent decrease in sales volume.
