Ireland immigration permit renewal backlog

Overview

To address a backlog at the Immigration Services Registration Office, where renewal processing times reached seven to 17 weeks, Ireland introduced a temporary travel concession. From July 13, 2026, until August 31, 2026, eligible non-EEA residents with expired Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards were permitted to travel and re-enter the country.

To utilize this measure, individuals who had submitted renewal applications before their previous cards expired were required to present their expired IRP card alongside a printed Travel Confirmation Notice and proof of their renewal filing.
