The June‑July wave of IRGC‑linked drone and missile strikes on Peshmerga positions, Kurdish camps and U.S. facilities in Iraq’s Kurdistan region has continued to expand. After a booby‑trapped drone was intercepted near the U.S. consulate in Erbil on 25 July and multiple UAVs were shot down over the city and its international airport, officials warned that the threat persisted. On 27 July Kurdish authorities said a new series of seven drones attacked on 5 August targets associated with Iranian‑opposition groups – the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, the Freedom Party and the National Kurdish Army – around Erbil, Kirkuk and Duhok. The strikes caused material damage, ignited forest fires and damaged a base near Mount Hibat Sultan, but no fatalities were reported. Iraqi Kurdistan leaders attributed the attacks to elements operating from within Iraq, while Tehran has not claimed responsibility.
