Irish literary awards and recognition
Overview
The Irish literary scene has seen several developments regarding major awards and recognition. In late September 2026, twelve bookshops were longlisted for the An Post Bookshop of the Year award, and Nicole Flattery was named the recipient of the 2026 Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, which saw its annual prize increased to €20,000.
By late October 2026, the shortlist for the 21st annual An Post Irish Book Awards was announced, featuring nominees across 19 categories such as Novel of the Year and History. The awards process includes a public voting period ending November 13, with winners to be announced at a ceremony in Dublin on December 1 and a subsequent television special on RTÉ One.
