Italian company Irplast announced plans to launch a new industrial production line in Atessa, Chieti, utilizing LISIM technology to produce 30,000 tons of high-performance, recyclable monomaterial packaging films annually. The project, part of a 60 million euro investment in innovation and growth, aims to align with European Union packaging regulations. Following the planned timeline, the facility was inaugurated in mid-September. The event was attended by regional officials, including Abruzzo President Marco Marsilio, and representatives from the Japanese TOPPAN Group, which became the majority shareholder of Irplast in June 2025. The inauguration also featured the Japanese Vice Ambassador to Italy, Yujiro Hayashi, noting the economic ties between the Abruzzo region and Japan. On September 15, the company held an operational ceremony for the new line, which utilizes advanced technology from Brückner Maschinenbau to enhance energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This new manufacturing line focuses on high-performance biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films using simultaneous biaxial orientation technology. Combined with existing capabilities, the facility is expected to reach a total annual supply capacity of approximately 30,000 tonnes. These films are intended to serve as substrates for eco-friendly packaging, such as transparent GL BARRIER films. Full commercial operations are expected to commence by late 2026, targeting global brand owners and packaging converters.
