ISIS terror conspiracy investigations in Karnataka

Overview

Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) courts in Bengaluru have issued sentences to individuals involved in Islamic State (IS) terror conspiracies in Karnataka.

In one case, Syed Fasiur Rehaman was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 48,000 for his role in the Al-Hind ISIS conspiracy. This case, which began with a Karnataka Police investigation in 2020, involved plans to establish an ISIS “wilayah” or province through targeted killings and jungle-camp training.

In a separate investigation involving an IS module in Shivamogga, Hujair Farhan Beg was sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 58,000 rupees. This module, allegedly directed by an online handler known as ‘Colonel’, utilized cryptocurrency to fund operations and radicalize youth. The NIA has filed multiple chargesheets in these ongoing investigations into regional terror modules.
