Islamabad Chamber of Commerce economic engagement
Overview
The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has transitioned from addressing immediate regulatory hurdles to proposing long-term strategic economic reforms.
Initially, ICCI leadership met with the Minister of State for Interior to discuss local business challenges, including fire safety enforcement, commercial plaza sealing, and CDA-related regulatory matters. To resolve these issues, the ICCI agreed to act as a ‘single-window platform’ to facilitate coordination between the business community and government departments.
Following these discussions, the ICCI President proposed an ‘Islamabad Economic Master Plan’ aimed at transforming the capital into a regional hub for investment and technology. This strategic vision focuses on sectors such as IT-enabled services, digital trade, and healthcare. On a national level, the ICCI has called for a shift toward export-oriented growth and the removal of structural constraints, including high energy costs and taxation issues, to improve global competitiveness.
