Islamabad urban management and security measures

Overview

Authorities in Islamabad have initiated several measures to manage urban order and infrastructure. Initially, a large-scale anti-encroachment campaign was launched by the Interior Ministry, the Capital Development Authority, and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad to reclaim state lands and remove illegal constructions in areas such as Saidpur Village and the Islamabad Expressway.

Following these efforts, President Asif Ali Zardari approved a new ordinance to protect the city’s Safe City surveillance infrastructure. The law imposes fines of up to Rs2 million for the damage of cameras or surveillance equipment. This ordinance also holds organizers of public gatherings, such as protests or rallies, responsible for any damage occurring during their events.
