Israel and international missile defense advancements
Overview
Israel and its international partners are advancing various missile and directed-energy defense technologies to counter aerial threats.
In early August, Israel and the United States conducted a successful test of a modernized Arrow missile defense system. This trial, involving the Israeli Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, utilized new artificial-intelligence-driven algorithms to enhance navigation and data processing for exo-atmospheric ballistic missile interception.
Developments have also expanded into laser-based weaponry. Israel has deployed the ‘Iron Beam’ system, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems, to intercept rockets, mortars, and drones more cost-effectively than traditional missiles. Concurrently, the United Kingdom is progressing with its ‘Dragonfire’ laser system, which has demonstrated the ability to neutralize high-speed drones with extreme precision and low operational costs.
