Israel-Gaza genocide allegations

United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, citing the killing of approximately 30,000 people over five months, the use of torture, and the systematic destruction of vital infrastructure. Albanese noted that Palestinian populations, including children, women, the elderly, and the disabled, are being targeted. She also addressed violence in the West Bank and criticized Western governments and private companies for perceived complicity.

Subsequent reports indicate the death toll from the military offensive in the Gaza Strip has risen to nearly 65,400 Palestinians, including more than 19,000 children. Independent UN commissions, human rights rapporteurs, and various NGOs have characterized Israel’s actions as genocide. Documented violations include the intentional killing of journalists, healthcare workers, and political opponents, as well as the use of white phosphorus and ‘double tap’ tactics. The reports also highlight the destruction of hospitals, schools, housing, and water treatment plants, alongside the forced displacement of populations in Gaza, the occupied territories, and Lebanon.
