Israel announces West Bank lockdown and crossing closures for elections

The Israeli military has announced a total closure of all land crossings into the West Bank for the legislative elections scheduled for Tuesday, October 27. This decision follows a major security operation in the city of Hebron, which was launched after a shooting incident near a checkpoint left two Israeli soldiers dead and three others wounded.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that displaced residents would not be permitted to return to their neighborhoods until the military has addressed Hamas-related issues in Hebron. Reports indicate that between 2,000 and 2,670 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from the area due to home demolitions and military orders.

In addition to the crossing closures, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have implemented a ban on Palestinian workers entering or leaving the West Bank and Jordan Valley, including restrictions on access to industrial zones. Security operations across approximately 40 areas in the West Bank have resulted in the arrest of roughly 40 suspects.
