Israeli military actions against journalists in West Bank
Overview
In mid-September 2026, Israeli military forces conducted operations in the West Bank targeting journalists.
On September 12, forces raided the Jenin residence of Palestinian journalist Ali Al-Samoudi. During the raid, military personnel searched the property, caused damage, and assaulted Al-Samoudi’s son. Authorities demanded Al-Samoudi surrender himself to the military, though no written summons was issued. Al-Samoudi, a former Al Jazeera correspondent, was not present during the raid.
On September 16, Israeli forces detained Palestinian-American journalist Naqaa Hamed at a military checkpoint southeast of Bethlehem while she was returning from Hebron. While her colleagues were allowed to proceed, Hamed was taken into custody. Israeli media outlets, citing unidentified military sources, reported she is under suspicion of “cooperating with an enemy entity” and potential espionage. However, her family and colleagues maintain the detention is related to her reporting on Palestinian suffering and settler violence.
