Israel‑Lebanon border clashes 2026
Entities: Lebanese Army · Ali al‑Taher Ridge · Hezbollah · Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir · Israeli Defence Forces (IDF)
Overview
Following a U.S.-mediated framework agreement in late June 2026 that established a security zone in southern Lebanon, hostilities along the Israel‑Lebanon border persisted. On 23 July, an Israeli drone fired guided missiles at an ambulance operated by the Islamic Health Authority and the Lebanese Civil Defence near Nabatieh al‑Fawqa, wounding two paramedics and damaging the vehicle. The strike occurred despite a recent U.S.–Iran truce and highlighted the continuation of Israeli artillery and drone activity in the area.
A few days later, on the night of 28‑29 July, Hezbollah launched an explosive drone against an Israeli engineering vehicle on the Ali al‑Taher Ridge. Israeli officials called the attack a “blatant violation” of the U.S.–brokered cease‑fire signed on 19 June, which obliges the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah and requires Israeli forces to withdraw from designated pilot zones. The incident was the first drone strike reported since the cease‑fire began and raised concerns that the fragile truce could unravel, as Israel reiterated its refusal to further withdraw from occupied Lebanese areas while maintaining “freedom of action” in the zones already handed over to the Lebanese army.
