In late July 2026 Istanbul’s provincial health director highlighted the city’s preventive‑care achievements, reporting 130 million medical examinations in the first half of the year and noting a rise to 1,120 family‑health centres, reduced patient loads per doctor, and the city’s role as a regional medical hub.

Within a week, the same authority detailed an intensive inspection campaign across public, private and university facilities that resulted in administrative fines totaling 473 million Turkish lira for violations such as non‑compliant infrastructure, improper billing and malpractice concerns. The inspections, described as “double‑blind,” also included closure orders and coordinated criminal investigations.

Together, the two updates show an escalating focus by Istanbul’s health administration: first emphasizing the breadth and accessibility of preventive services, then moving to strict enforcement and penalty measures aimed at improving quality and compliance across the health sector.
