Italian athletic achievements and competitions

In early September 2026, Italian athletes achieved significant success across various international and national sporting disciplines.

International victories included the Italian national table football team winning seven of twelve available world titles at the FISTF World Cup in Paris, with notable wins in youth and women’s categories. In rowing, the Italian U23 team earned ten medals at the European Championships in Poland, highlighted by a gold for Luca Borgonovo in the lightweight single sculls. Other international successes included Fabrizio Cornegliani winning gold in the MH1 category at the UCI Paracycling Road World Championships, and the Italian national target shooting team earning three gold and three silver medals at the World Championships in Braga, Portugal. Additionally, the Italian judo team began preparations for the Grand Slam in Budapest to secure Olympic ranking points for Los Angeles 2028.

Domestically, Manuela Gambuzza secured the M1 female category title at the Italian Olympic Triathlon Championships in Alba Adriatica, while Alessandro Taddeo earned second place in the M5 category. In Bolzano, Sardinian regional teams competed in the Master Athletics Trophy, where Monica Dessi won a silver medal in the 200m and the men’s team took eighth place.

Looking ahead, athlete Fabio Guiotto is scheduled to participate in the third Special Triathlon for Cystic Fibrosis in Numana on September 13. This event aims to support the Centro FC delle Marche by funding clinical research and sports equipment.
