Italian cities blue‑zone parking reforms

Overview

In late July, Benevento officials complained that the municipality had reinstated paid parking in a blue‑zone street without prior notice, signage, or an information campaign, calling the approach a “trap for revenue.”

A week later, Vercelli scheduled a temporary replacement of horizontal signage and a short‑term no‑parking ban, while Orvieto introduced new rules for electric‑vehicle parking, keeping a few historic squares free but converting most other blue‑zone spots to paid status.

In early August, Orvieto refined that scheme: free EV parking remains in three central squares, but several additional squares will now charge to balance demand. Busto Arsizio expanded its automated licence‑plate parking system to the Gavinana, Volturno and Landriani lots, preserving the €1‑per‑hour rate and offering free parking during the Ferragosto week. These updates show a continued, coordinated effort by Italian municipalities to adjust, clarify and enforce blue‑zone and related parking policies.
