Italian construction sector compliance enforcement

In late July 2026 Italian authorities carried out separate enforcement actions targeting construction‑related misconduct. On 28 July, the anti‑corruption watchdog ANAC reprimanded the municipality of Agrigento after an audit revealed serious irregularities in a PNrr‑funded redevelopment project, leading the regional funder to revoke the €4.9 million grant and demand repayment. The same audit highlighted procedural failures, including an unapproved budget increase and lack of secured land. In a parallel case, a construction firm lost its DURC after missing a single tax‑regularisation instalment, jeopardising its ability to receive public contract payments.

Two days later, on 30 July, Carabinieri Forestale units in Aversa seized a dump truck carrying overloaded non‑hazardous construction waste and fined three workers. The officers also ordered the driver’s licence suspension and warned of possible vehicle confiscation. The incident, tied to unauthorized renovation work, underscored ongoing challenges in illegal waste dumping despite intensified regional remediation efforts.

Together, these actions illustrate a broader crackdown on compliance failures within Italy’s construction sector, ranging from public‑fund misuse to environmental violations.
