Italian craft beer tourism

A science‑focused craft‑beer gathering in Novoli, Lecce, marked the conclusion of the “Birre d’Autore” series and celebrated the 30th anniversary of Italy’s craft‑beer movement. The event highlighted how research on yeast, fermentation and flavor is reshaping brewing practices.

Within a day, attention shifted to broader beer‑tourism initiatives. The upcoming Birrocco festival was announced for August in Marina di Ragusa, Sicily, featuring multiple Italian microbreweries, live music and a “Beer Passport” for visitors. At the same time, the beBeer platform released a series of European beer‑tour itineraries, selecting Bologna as the sole Italian destination and outlining a curated route of breweries and pubs.

In July 2026, organizers confirmed the 11th edition of Birrocco will run 13‑16 August at Marina di Ragusa’s harbour, showcasing eight breweries from Sicily and other regions—including Onei, Kuturi, Epica, Brewfist, Lariano, War, Porta Bruciata and Antikorp. The festival will again offer a “Beer Passport” for stamp‑collecting, a commemorative mug, a street‑food zone with Sicilian specialties, and a programme of concerts, DJ sets and family‑friendly entertainment.

Together, the snapshots show a progression from a localized, scholarly celebration of craft brewing to larger, publicly promoted festivals and itineraries that aim to boost beer tourism across southern Italy and beyond.
