Italian cultural commemorations for artists

Overview

Italy has initiated several cultural projects in 2026 to commemorate significant artistic figures. In Gibellina, the Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva is presenting ‘Mummie’, an immersive exhibition by the late French artist Philippe Berson that explores the intersections of theater, photography, and sculpture.

Simultaneously, Brescia is hosting a multi-disciplinary project to mark the centenary of Renato Borsoni’s birth. Promoted by the Centro Teatrale Bresciano in collaboration with the Borsoni family and the Municipality of Brescia, the initiative includes two exhibitions: ‘Sguardi. Immagini, documenti, provocazioni in un teatro di pensiero’ at the Cavallerizza – Centro della Fotografia Italiana, and ‘Progetti. Mostra/allestimento tra utopie e rivoluzioni di un teatro libero’ at the MO. CA. – Centro per le Nuove Culture. These displays feature over 500 items, including photographs, sketches, and writings, documenting Borsoni’s impact on Italian theater and cultural planning.
