Italian family and child welfare initiatives

Italy continues to implement legislative and community-based measures to support families and children. Under the 2026 Budget Law, the government has established a 60 million euro fund for the 2026-2028 period to provide rent subsidies for separated or divorced parents with dependent children. This subsidy aims to cover 50% of rental costs, up to 500 euros per month, for eligible parents meeting specific income and maintenance payment requirements.

Humanitarian organizations are actively expanding their outreach through large-scale fundraising and awareness campaigns. Save the Children is launching its second ‘BisBuoni’ edition in nearly 100 Italian squares to support children in global crisis zones, while Unicef is running its ‘Ulivo’ campaign to fund aid for vulnerable children. Additionally, Emergency is organizing a ‘Day of Giving’ across 500 squares to support maternal and child health in conflict areas such as Gaza, Afghanistan, and Sudan.

Local social and educational programs are also proliferating. The ‘Diamoci la mano’ network, involving Moige and ABC Bambini Chirurgici, provides psychological and social support to children with complex pathologies. Municipal efforts include the establishment of a Legality and Active Citizenship Observatory in Brindisi to combat youth distress and bullying, the Pedibus project in Sansepolcro for sustainable mobility, and road safety campaigns in Fossacesia. Further community support includes foster parent training in Corato and the opening of new family centers in Chiavari.
