Italian fraud enforcement and house arrests
Entities: Court of Naples · Court of Parma · Poviglio (Reggio Emilia) · Carabinieri (Italian police) · Naples
Overview
In early July 2026, Carabinieri in Anagni placed a 44‑year‑old man under house arrest for a 2020 computer‑fraud scheme, and later in Poviglio a 45‑year‑old offender received a residual custodial term of three years and three months, also to be served at home. These cases demonstrated the use of house‑arrest sentences to enforce fraud‑related convictions across several regions.
On 26 July, the Carabinieri expanded their anti‑fraud operations with the arrest of a 27‑year‑old Neapolitan in Viareggio. Investigators linked him to 42 telephone scams targeting seniors aged 54‑96 in Rome, Lazio, Campania and Tuscany, employing “fake grandson” and “fake postal operator” tactics. Victims lost cash and gold totalling more than €300,000, including an 81‑year‑old woman duped out of €14,000 and 200 g of gold. Police seized phone books, mobile devices, €10,000 in cash and valuable watches from the suspect’s home in Naples.
Together, these actions illustrate a continued, coordinated Italian law‑enforcement effort to combat diverse fraud schemes—ranging from computer‑based scams to telephone deceptions—through arrests, convictions and the use of house‑arrest sentences.
