Economic and industrial initiatives in Italy are expanding across maritime, space, and aviation sectors. In Fiumicino, the Blue Planet Economy Expoforum is scheduled for October 2026 at Piazzale Molinari to facilitate discussions on coastal logistics, sustainable shipbuilding, and port development. Concurrently, the Italian Exhibition Group has introduced the Bex – Beyond Exploration Expo in Rimini, which explores the intersection of the space economy with terrestrial industries such as telecommunications and automotive. The expo has officially launched, serving as an international platform to bridge aerospace research and materials with sectors including agriculture, mechanics, nautical, and healthcare. Maurizio Ermeti, president of Ieg, described the expo as a “major opportunity for the country to integrate space-based innovations into the domestic industrial system.” Corrado Peraboni, CEO of Ieg, noted that the event addresses a market gap where space and terrestrial technology sectors have historically operated separately. Participating companies, such as the Teramo-based ProtoDynamics, are showcasing technologies including high-performance drones, autonomous AI systems, and multi-domain platforms to demonstrate how space-grade research can improve industrial efficiency on Earth. The first edition of the Bex expo has now opened at the Rimini Expo Centre. Data from the Politecnico di Milano Space Economy Observatory highlights significant growth potential; while only 10% of large Italian companies in other sectors currently have active space technology projects, 55% view it as a viable area for diversification. Italy currently ranks seventh globally for the number of active satellites, with a national aerospace supply chain valued at 21.4 billion euros. Additionally, at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, the ‘Move and Fly’ project has been launched to enhance passenger wellness through dedicated areas for physical activity.
