In late July 2026, the Italian regional football federation began the 2026/27 Eccellenza season dealing with multiple club exclusions that created vacant spots in the leagues. Carbonia Calcio was barred from the Regional Eccellenza championship because unresolved wage claims and debts violated new federation rules, despite financial support from its president, sponsors and the municipal administration. In Abruzzo, Amiternina Scoppito, despite topping the applicant points table, was denied promotion to the Promozione league, a decision the club plans to challenge legally. These developments illustrate ongoing administrative and financial hurdles that are reshaping the composition of Italy’s lower‑division football leagues.
