Italian maritime and nautical sector developments

Overview

Italy continues to see significant activity in its maritime and nautical sectors, with a growing emphasis on the “Blue Economy” and large-scale industrial exhibitions.

Preparations have culminated in the 66th Genoa International Boat Show, organized by Confindustria Nautica and scheduled for October 1 to 6. The event is set to feature over 1,000 vessels, including 215 new models representing 45 countries. Notable trends for this edition include a 28% rise in multihull units and a 14.1% increase in the average size of major vessels compared to 2025.

Confindustria Nautica President Piero Formenti underscored the sector’s economic impact, noting an industry turnover of 8.6 billion euros and the employment of nearly 170,000 people. With approximately 90% of production aimed at international markets, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) is doubling its investment in international operator programs to support global outreach.

Regional development remains a priority, with Liguria’s Marco Bucci emphasizing that maritime infrastructure investments, such as the Waterfront di Levante, are essential for industry growth and tourism. Furthermore, strategic collaborations are strengthening the sector, exemplified by the partnership between the Salone Nautico di Puglia (SNIM) and the Pescare Show in Rimini to promote economic development across the maritime industry.
