Italian municipal safety and generational policy initiatives

Overview

Italian municipalities and regional leaders are implementing various safety and generational policy measures. In Palermo, officials are seeking an increased security presence near schools following a serious accident involving a child, while Qualiano has approved measures to improve road safety through better signage and speed enforcement.

On a policy level, Parma Mayor Michele Guerra is proposing to transform the city’s ‘Youth Check’—a mechanism for assessing how public policies affect younger generations—into a national legislative model. This effort is supported by an agreement with CNEL. Similarly, Livorno has approved the introduction of Generational Impact Assessment (VIG) into its public policies, with experimental implementation scheduled for 2027.

Other regional initiatives include a 15 million euro investment in Palermo to provide free gym access to 50,000 youths and discussions in Reggio Emilia regarding the intersection of law, mental health, and social care. In Lombardy, there have been calls for stricter workplace safety regulations following a fatal accident.
