Local administrations in various Italian municipalities have faced scrutiny regarding the management of summer cultural events and regional tourism strategies.

Initial criticisms focused on the execution of summer programming and public spending. In Capua, officials noted a lack of cultural initiatives compared to neighboring towns. In Francavilla Fontana, opposition leaders questioned the high costs of the summer event calendar and demanded an accounting of public resources. Meanwhile, in Ferrara, the municipal administration expressed dissatisfaction with the Buskers Festival after the decision to implement paid access to parts of the historic center, despite the city providing approximately 70% of the festival's budget.

Discussions subsequently expanded to broader regional tourism management and development. In Pavia, during the Ticinum Festival, officials and academics addressed the balance between overtourism and undertourism, noting a shortage of high-standard hotels and the impact of student housing on local real estate. In the Amiata region, the Tourism Councilor for Piancastagnaio criticized the Amiata Outdoor Festival for a perceived lack of synergy, arguing that promotional efforts benefit Abbadia San Salvatore rather than the eight municipalities within the Amiata Tourist Area.
