Italian railway emergency response drills
Overview
Italian civil protection authorities have conducted a series of emergency response simulations involving railway tunnels to test safety protocols.
In mid-September, authorities performed a large-scale drill in the Colombo tunnel in Genoa. The simulation focused on a regional train derailment near the tunnel exit to test coordination between firefighters, medical services, and Rfi regarding passenger evacuation.
In October, a nighttime drill was held in the San Donato tunnel on the Florence-Arezzo Direttissima line. This exercise simulated a train fire and smoke inhalation, testing communication flows and the use of specialized bimodal vehicles for rescue and passenger transport.
