Italian regional addiction support initiatives

Health authorities across various Italian regions are implementing localized strategies to address substance use and behavioral addictions.

In the Bergamo Ovest region, the Asst Bergamo Ovest has launched six experimental service points as part of the 2026-2027 Local Addiction Plan. These free hubs, located in areas such as Dalmine and Treviglio, aim to provide orientation for youth and adults regarding alcohol, tobacco, and behavioral issues like gambling or internet overuse. Similarly, in Florence, the Spazi Giò project has established four locations within Community Houses to assist with psychoactive substances and problematic gaming.

In Calabria, the regional government has implemented a specialized network to combat gambling addiction, or ludopathy. This network consists of 14 accredited centers managed by third-sector organizations, utilizing multidisciplinary teams to provide residential and outpatient assistance. The regional strategy includes approximately 1.3 million euros in annual funding for provincial health agencies to support these services and school prevention programs.
