Italian regional agricultural reforms

In early July, Tuscany and Sicily hosted regional agricultural forums to discuss future policies for the sector, bringing together officials, producers and NGOs to outline priorities.

By late July, Tuscany's regional council had approved a comprehensive agriculture and rural development law that creates a permanent agriculture council, strengthens anti‑caporalato measures, simplifies procedures, modernises inspections, and expands support for agritourism, animal‑welfare, apiculture, fisheries, forest management, truffle cultivation and farms affected by disasters. Democratic Party leaders praised the reforms.

Meanwhile, in Calabria, a coalition of the Association Rurale Italiana, the Della Terra cooperative and other partners launched a Regional Network of Social Agriculture focused on agroecology, workers’ rights and the reclamation of lands previously seized by the mafia, with plans to formalise the network within months. These developments mark a transition from policy‑shaping discussions to concrete legislative and organisational actions across Italian regions.
