The governors of Sardinia and Tuscany have discussed programmatic convergences, emphasizing the implementation of ‘community houses’ (case di comunità) and the strengthening of family medicine to provide patients with reliable local points of reference.

In Tuscany, the regional government is actively evaluating territorial services through site visits to facilities like the Casa della Comunità HUB in Pian d’Ovile. While the region aims to expand community houses using PNRR funding, the reform efforts have met local resistance. In the Pistoia mountains, opposition leaders and community committees are protesting the potential loss of emergency services at Pacini Hospital. While the regional government attributes service limitations to a ‘chronic shortage of doctors,’ critics argue that the current strategy ignores geographic distances and the lack of alternative local services.

Recent developments include the formalization of leadership changes within the Tuscan health system. Following a decree signed by Regional President Eugenio Giani, Dario Rosini has been appointed as the new general director of Asl Toscana Sud Est, the region’s largest health authority by territory. Rosini, who previously served as the human resources director for the organization from 2016 to 2023 and most recently as the administrative director at Careggi University Hospital, is scheduled to officially assume his role on October 12. His appointment follows positive reviews from the Regional Council’s health commission and the mayors' corporate conference. Political tensions persist regarding the status of the Pacini hospital in San Marcello Piteglio as a ‘disadvantaged area emergency room.’
