In July–August 2026, Italian regions implemented PNRR-funded health initiatives focused on cost reduction, digital accessibility, and community-based care. Puglia introduced a software alert for doctors and pharmacies to flag cheaper equivalent medicines, aiming to reduce pharmaceutical spending by over €100 million. In Bari, a new Proximity Ambulatory Service opened in Altamura to support vulnerable groups, including migrants and low-income families. Tuscany launched the “Botteghe della Salute” project, utilizing health kiosks in four towns to assist with electronic records and social-service applications. Lombardy expanded the San Giovanni Bianco community hospital with 20 new beds and updated its 2026 health programme to prioritize telemedicine, mental health, and shorter waiting lists. Additionally, Asst Lariana integrated private-practice specialist bookings into its single regional CUP system. In Veneto, a new Casa della Comunità in Cavallino-Treporti began centralizing primary care and specialist services as a “single point of reference.” Friuli Venezia Giulia launched a regional e-health portal for online appointment management and test results. In Tricase, the SOS PEOPLE project upgraded hematology services to enable advanced CAR-T therapies. By late August, efforts to optimize scheduling and territorial care expanded. In L'Aquila, Asl 1 Abruzzo introduced an SMS reminder service to reduce missed ~~appointments and legal penalties for non-attendance.~~ appointments.
