Italy national football team squad and Serie A updates

Overview

The Italian national football team has undergone squad adjustments for the UEFA Nations League following player injuries. Coach Roberto Mancini replaced Bryan Cristante, who is sidelined with lower back pain, with Samuele Ricci. Additionally, Federico Dimarco was ruled out due to a knee injury, leading to the call-up of Matteo Ruggeri.

These changes coincide with an unprecedented three-week international break for Serie A, during which 208 players have been selected for national duties. Como and AC Milan have seen the highest numbers of call-ups with 15 players each, followed by Atalanta with 13 players, including Carnesecchi, Raspadori, Scalvini, and Scamacca.

Injury concerns remain a significant factor for clubs during this hiatus. Juventus is managing a critical situation with an estimated 150 matches to be missed due to various injuries. Napoli is monitoring the recovery of Scott McTominay, who is expected to return to training following a cardiac ablation procedure, alongside Alex Meret and Leonardo Spinazzola. Other clubs are utilizing the break for recovery, such as Sassuolo with Jay Idzes, while Napoli has scheduled a friendly against Avellino to maintain match fitness.
