In early July 2026 a reconnaissance train inspected the Benevento‑Cancello line in Campania, checking Hitachi Rail signalling and safety upgrades financed by the national recovery plan. The regional council allocated €3 million to complete the new Guidoni station on the Florence‑Pisa line to improve intermodal connections. Later in July, Florence suspended traffic on the Campo di Marte – Rifredi and Campo di Marte – Santa Maria Novella lines from 23:00 GMT on 26 July until 11:00 GMT on 30 July. RFI installed a 550‑tonne Ponte al Pino bridge deck using a 2 000‑tonne crane, one of the most complex lifts in Europe. The bridge deck was lifted and positioned in a single operation; the crane is capable of handling up to 1 600 tonnes.
